why does my clipart col. have yellow x's on each & I can't apply.

i collected several clips from Office.I organized some. next time i was going
to do artfull note, all pieces of clip art had yellow X's in lower left
corner and can noT apply them to a page. Nothing budges! This is in MS Word
2003. I was going to apply one or two small clip arts on the background clip
art piece to accent my document.
