Why does MSFrontPage insert "[FrontPage Save Results Component]"

G

Guest

Front Page inserts [FrontPage Save Results Component] on my pages when I try
to use a form handler. When this occurs the form doesn't work. Can anyone
explain why and what do I do to make my forms work correctly?

S

Steve Easton

That's not why the form doesn't work.
The form needs to be published to a server with FrontPage extensions, using
http://domainname.com
After it's published, [FrontPage Save Results Component] will disappear and the form will
work.

FrontPage Save Results Component Possibilities:

1. The FP Extensions are not installed on the server
2. You tested the form in the browser via c:\.... instead of http://. Use
File | Preview in Browser instead of Preview if viewing locally.
3. You have a email address in the form, and the host hasn't enabled the
email function of the extensions
4. You FTP the form to the web site, instead of using FP's http method of
uploading

FrontPage extensions are installed on the server. Form was tested on the web
site. There is an email address in the form but email has been enabled on
the web site and I did not upload using ftp. That is why I am so frustrated.

Thanks. The problem that I have no idea what the problem is. I think I have
done everything on both the web server and in FrontPage to make the form
work. Nothing I do seems to work. FrontPage continues to say that the
ability to process email is not set up on the webserver but I believe it is.
I am not sure enough of what I am doing to state anything categorically
except what the server reports. I have attempted to contact customer for the
web host but they are apparently not available. Thanks to everyone who has
tried to help.

The pages works on http://www.highesthopes.com/fuelsaver but does not work on
http://www.highesthopes.com/futurefuel. One of the webs is the exact clone
of the other. I am very frustrated with this.

If you did not use FP's File Menu | Publish Web / Site command to make this clone, then that is the
cause of your problem.

Publish (via FP's http mode):
http://www.highesthopes.com/fuelsaver
to
http://www.highesthopes.com/futurefuel.

Just make a completely new form that should do the trick.
I take it you want both these pages on your site?
You do know your using repeated content which will penalise you in the
search engines

Hi Tina. Thanks for your response. I have built new forms to no avail. I
have done everything repeatly. I built this page for a friend who does
direct mail campaigns and he has been doing various campaigns with multiple
addresses. Since the response is more related to the ads the multiple sites
are ok. When we first began doing this we had a problem for a time or two
but I was able to get one site up and running and we just replicated it with
minor editing. I am not a professional programmer but up to now I have been
able to make things work. This is enough to drive me off the deep end. All
of the suggestions I have been given seem good but nothing seems to work.
Thanks for trying and if you have anyother ideas please let me know.

Tina, I have done that several times. I still get the FrontPage Save Results
Component error. I tried reinstalling the extensions and I thought at first
that the problem was solved but, alas, it was not. I have heard about the
end of the rope but this is rediculous.

Have you checked with the web host to make sure the FP extensions are configured to process email?

Does your host have to configure EACH subweb? This might have been done on
the working one but not on the other two...

you need an index page for the main site your files are showing... if you
don't want to show them you need a homepage.

I am running MS XP Professional with SP2 but I have no idea that that caused
the problem. I have a ticket opened with the host for several days to do
exactly that. I am wondering if I don't need a new host. I don't know that
it is their problem but I sure would like to hear from them so we could
explore it together.

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Subwebs do not have to be configured to process emails, etc. the extensions are shared from the root
web.

They have not spoke to after several days? Yes you need a new host ... hit
the ground running .. hopefully you don't have your domain with them.

What happens when you make a new subweb and try making a form?

Are you sure the form that works actually still works?

#4 was my problem. Actually not that I used FTP, but that I was editing the
site "live" rather than offline and then publishing with FP HTTP. Thought
many would like to know...

And Thanks!
