Why does it take so long to delete a single file?

I'm running Vista Ultimate and when I try to delete a file (6GB for example)
I get a popup saying it's calculating how long it ill take to "recycle" this
file and I have to wait for several minutes while it seems to be reading
through the file before it will allow me to delete it. What is up with this?
It's very annoying. I might as well be running Windows 3.0! With XP the file
was deleted immediately without this waiting BS.

What do I have to do to eliminate this wait?

You may have another process that's hogging the cpu at the same time

Fire up task manager (ctrl-shift-esc) and look at the processes running.

I found Windows Search aka 'FileIndexer.exe(???)' was the culprit when I
looked, so I switched that service to manual, which seems to have been
effective.

Try deleting a 6GB file after letting Vista sit there for a good 5-10
minutes, make sure there is no disk activity. Try this to see if you can
delete a 6GB file with no activity or there may be processing running tha
prevent the deletion. Yea, it kinda sucks, and I had the same problem
trying to copy a few files from one directory to another, but hey, it's
Vista...... Now where did I put my old XP disc?
