why does drawing a line with shift held down freak office out?

In Office 2003, holding shift down while drawing a line made a straight line.
Now, in 2007, for some reason, holding it down while drawing a line, makes a
straight line... that immediately extends WAY off the page/slide. (Like,
completely off, as soon as you move the cursor.) Happens both in word and
powerpoint.
