Why does CDRW lock up?

Every so often when I try to play a video CD I have made, the drive
will lock with drawer closed and I can't get it to open unless I shut
down & reboot. In fact, in such cases, if I try to look at the CD
disk in the drive using Windows Explorer, the system hangs and I have
to power off and reboot. Only then can I get the CD disk out of the
drive.

This happens on two different machines, using different drives of
course. So I have to wonder what it is about a CD disk that causes
this.

Anyone?

Same disk? Clarify please.

Sorry about that. I have had this happen over the past two years
several times, using several different CD-R disks and different
drives, different machines. So the even is not infrequent. So what
do you think I may be doing wrong?

Thanks

Perhaps the discs are bad, burning speed was mislabeled, bad burner, etc,
and the TOC is hard to read, incorrectly read, etc... essentially corrupt,
confuses drive.

A good test would be to copy off the files if possible, recreate the disc
with good media, burnt at moderate speed, say 24X, and see if it makes a
difference.

Interesting thing is that the troublesome CD disks will play okay in
my APEX player.

And one copy I made will play fine on PC.

System = XP.

Thanks

Yep, what Kony said, only I burn at 8x with my 52x burner. After all, what's
a few minutes here or there?

'Made' the CD?...or copied it from another CD?

3 times a year is not 'infrequent'? lol

Next time it happens, get back to us. If you can duplicate the
problem every time with that disk, we may be able to help you.

You may have had different problems with the different disks.
