Why does "@" appear when I write (C)?

go to tools/options and on the spelling tab click autocorrect and see what's listed

in 2007, orb, excel options button click proofing and then autocorrect options

It's not an @ sign, it's the copyright symbol. Excel (like all Office
programs) is trying to be helpful. To stop it, delete the entry in
Autocorrect.

In EXCEL 2007:-

Office Button (top left hand corner)

Excel Options (lower right hand corner)

Proofing

AutoCorrect Options . . .

In here there will be an entry for (c) telling EXCEL to replace that with @.

Highlight that entry and delete it.

If my comments have helped please hit Yes.

Thanks.

In 2003 it's under Tools / AutoCorrect Options . .

Please hit Yes if my comments have helped.

Thanks.

Can I emphasize that you might want the autocorrect to continue since
the list is the same for Word. If there are only a few "(c)"s needed,
you can cancel the "helpful" change with a space then CTRL-z.
