Why Does an Account Get Locked?

Why does an account get locked out in AD suddenly when they're logged in at
the right time, their account is not expired, etc.? I.E. there's no logical
reason is should be locked out.
 
Perhaps someone else is trying to login to the network using that account
and failing. The lockup might occur after repeated login failures. Check
the event logs on the DC's.
