Why does AMD change sockets so often?

They come out with a new socket constantly. WTF is that about? Is that
really necessary or is there some money-making motivation?
 
Intel/AMD come out with new sockets about as often as they need to to
support the technologies they wish to add to thier platforms. I'm sure it's
not something they particularly *want* to do, esp. since AMD enjoyed quite a
bit of good PR in the socket A day's when intel first started their bout
with new sockets.. But if you want stuff like DDR2, coprocessors and such...

As opposed to Intel when each new processor requires it's own dedicated
socket?
