why do you have to restart outlook before new contacts are saved?

i.e. when you add a contact and save it, you can't use it in a bcc or send
until you restart outlook.

That doesn't happen to me. How are you adding the contact?

I sometimes want to add an email from another message but forward the one I'm
looking at. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I do an add contact
and copy the full email address into the contact field and MSO separates it.
I then go to the next page and add the nickname and save it. Usually in this
process WORD is still open as the email editor, but won't respond to just
typing a few characters. Even when word is closed, O doesn't seem to want to
find it either. I did save the contact. Only when I restart O, does it seem
to work, but once in a while I get lucky and it works properly without
quitting O.

I do this often enough that it's annoying, but then again O seems to be just
like a mother in law - annoying. Outlook express is less anoying. Outlook
Express for Mac OS 9 was generally a pleasure.

There is no field named "Contact" on an Add Contact dialogue. As for
Nickname, do you mean the one on the Details tab? What do you enter for the
full name on the General tab?

Bill:

Step by step.
File/New/Contact
Find an email from inbox with an address in the form of:
First Last[[email protected]]
Select it, including brackets, and use ^C to Copy - Copy is greyed.
Under general tab and the email field do a ^V
Click outside the field.
email and display get filled in and email just pasted gets broken up.
Copy the "display as" field into the "full name" field.
Click outside the box. last, first and first, last do a transformation
Goto the details tab and add a nickname
Hit the close box [x] and save changes.
Try to compose a message using the first few characters of the new nickname
or name. Nothing is found.
Good luck.
Exit outlook and try again - works.

Try this method to make a new Contact.

Find email from them in Inbox. Drag it to the Contacts folder and release.

Add data into fields as required (email and name are done automatically).

Save and close button (top left).
