Messages in my inbox after a few days may disappear, they can be found by a
search, which says they are in my inbox, i can move them to any other
subdirectory, but not back to my inbox where i want them.

Check your View settings and change it to All Messages, not just unread ones
or those younger than XX number of days. You should not use your Inbox for
storage. Make a subfolder of the Inbox to save items.

OK so far.

Not true at all. There's nothing wrong with keeping messages in the Inbox,
if that's what's desired. Moreover, if you want to manage messages by
keeping them in separate folders, there's nothing that says those folders
need to be under the Inbox. They can be on the same level as Inbox or they
can be in completely separate PSTs.

That only applies to Outlook EXPRESS when you should make a completely
different folder to the inbox (and NOT a sub-folder) to store messages in.
