Why do I receive repeat mails after logging on to different machin

In my office, we have about 4 four computers used by all employees as common
PCs. I have got outlook exchange and pop server configured on all of these
machines. Sometimes when I log into a different machines, all the mails (I am
not sure of the cut-off line), which I have downloaded once on one PC, get
downloaded again on the different PC. Thus everytime I hit the send-receive
button, I get multiple - 2/3 copies of about 30-80 mails.

Any explanation and solution?

The explanation is that no machine knows what you've downloaded on the
others. How can it? As far as it's concerned, all the messages you got
since the last time you used that particular machine are new and so
downloads them. The solution is to keep your delivery location on the
Exchange server and then all the machines will share the same mailbox abd
you don't have to worry anout "downloading".

Thanks Brian for your reply. But I think we are already keeping the mailbox
on the server. I guess the catch is when I try to download mails at home. To
see all mails at home, I have to check "keep a copy on the server" box on all
4 machines in the office. This might be the cause of the problem.

Now let me change my question:
How can I download all mails to my home PC without getting repeat mails on
office PCs ?

If youre using an Exchange account at work, there should be no downloading
there. If you're using a POP account at home and using the Exchange server
as a POP server through some type of access your work set up, then I don't
see how that can affect what the work PCs see in any way, other than,
perhaps to mark the downloaded messages as read on the server. I think
there's more to the story than you're stating. Can you give a more complete
descripton of the work and home configurations, including Outlook version
and account types, and the symptoms you see at each?

Let me try to answer your querries as specifically as I can.

The outlook I have is Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5606).

At work for some reason, we have both PoP/SMTP and Exchange accounts set
for everyone (PoP comes before Exchange).

Initally I had only PoP configured at home, but realized that some mails
were not coming through and hence added Exchange account as well. Now to
receive mails at home, I had to check the box for "Keep a copy on server" on
the office PCs.

Hope this can give you some idea about the settings at my end.

You still didn't say what server you're using for your home account.

Do you mean what Outlook version am I using at home? I am using Outlook
2003. And receiving mails by PoP server as well as Exchange.

Are you saying that you use both POP and Exchange at home?
 
OK. Lets' go back to this post:

on
the office PCs.

This says to be that you're referencing not only an Exchange server and one
or more POP accounts at work and you are downloading those POP messages.
The normal settings for POP are to download messages from the server and
remove the messages from the server. If messages are remove from the
server, naturally, they will not be there to see if you connect to that same
mail server from some other machine. Since it appears that all the PCs at
work reference this same POP server, unless you tell them all to leave the
messages on the server, the messages will not be available for downloading
when you connect with your home machine.

You should be delivering all your messages to the Exchange server and
referencing that with an Exchange account both from home and at work. That
way all the messages will be available both from home and work and you will
need only an Exchange account at home.
