Hello,

All of a sudden, my browser requires me to type in full:
http://www.microsoft.com to see the page in a reasonable amount of time (2-4
seconds), if I just type in www.microsoft.com on a *fresh* browser instance,
it would take almost 30 seconds to load the page while the status bar at the
bottom of the browser window still shows "Done".

Other information:
- Same problem with accessing to other websites, not just www.microsoft.com
- Once the browser displays a page (any page), it behaves normally for
subsequent tries. That is, it only happens for the first time after the
browser window is launched.
- My default page is blank.
- Version is IE is 6.0.2800.1106
- Windows 2000 Professional
- Other machines on the same network don't have this problem.
- It used to work for this machine.

Any one knows what I can do to fix this problem? Thanks!!!

After installing the latest windows update (some security fixes), the
problem just went away.

My son's PC has this problem too, although IE freezes and never gets to the
page. I also noticed that it only happens if he has a few programs running
at the same time. What update fixed it?

It is not spyware etc. I have used Adaware, Spybot and Hijack This. The PC
is clean. Something else is still causing it. It works fine until I have
several programs running.

janice,
Did you check the registry enties?
Or
From IE> Tools> Options> Advanced... uncheck Allow third party browser
extensions. Does that help? If so, then find out which program is
interfering with IE. Something running in the background- a security
program? Anything suspicious in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files (or
WINNT\Downloaded Program Files)
Or
Check file associations: http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm
Or
You could try repairing IE:
