I have no problem with a jpg, but publishing a page with a video I get an
error. The hosting site has plenty of space for it.

Where is the .avi file located? Has it been linked and saved into a folder
on the development website?

Also, by default the FP extensions are limited to uploading of files that are 1 MB or smaller in
size, unless the web host has configure the extensions to allow for larger file sizes.

If the host won't increase the available filesize could he use an FTP client
to copy the file to the website? Or would that messup the FPSE stuff for
the website?

Thanks,
Tom

FTPing a media file won't affect the FP SE

If he is very, very careful FTP will not damage the extensions. Only
the file should be uploaded with FTP and absolutely nothing else. If a
folder is uploaded, the extensions are always corrupted.

After FTPing the file, open the remote site and run Tools->Recalculate
Hyperlinks.
Note that when the local site is opened in Remote Site view (or when
publishing the local site) this file will be marked as "Conflict".

Finally, the local copy should be marked as "Do not Publish". Right
click the local file and choose "Don't Publish"

A better way will be to place the file in a folder on its own, right
click the folder and "Convert to Web". The *contents* of this subweb
can then be FTPed without problems, but do not open it in FrontPage - if
the extensions in the subweb are corrupted, the main web and other
subwebs are not affected. The main web should be published without
subwebs.
