As above, a lot of"experts"go on about using gpedit in windows but seem to
forget it is NOT part of XP Home, cannot be used with and will not run with.
Why don't they say "IF you have XP Pro then use"
NOT everyone has XP Pro(yes some people have it even when they do not need
it).........

I guess people assume that anyone who needs to tweak policy settings on
their systems would have bought a version of XP that allows that... Is this
a fair assumption? I think so. After all, people often forget to specify
whether they have Home or Pro.

Go look in a Windows 2000 news group and you'll see that its quite common to
see Windows ME users who don't realize that "Millenium" does not equate to
"2000" as far as Windows goes (or the calendar, but that's another issue.)
I try not to end all my attempts at help with "...and if you really mean
MILLENIUM EDITION (ME) then none of the above applies, and instead..."

Even if you state, IF you have XP Pro then use... Some people who have XP
Home don't get it.

No need to multipost this to so many groups. Crosspost, when necessary. You
have lots of other replies in other groups.

Because so many OPs assume the experts know what version of Windows XP (or
other OS/applications) they have installed on their computer and the OP only
wants quick answers... To go with their hasty and incomplete query.

why would one use xp home anyways? i never figured that out.

It has pretty much everything that a typical home user actually needs and
uses.

Windows XP Home and Pro are identical in performance and stability.
Most home users do not need the extra features Pro provides.
Most home users have other plans for the $100 saved by not buying
features that will never be needed.

Why don't people state what OS they are using?
I have 4 crystal balls and they don't assist me in
figuring out what system the OP is using.

Let me guess, you're using WinXP HOME !
