Hello,

I have a workstation XP-Pro with SP2 and all updates installed where a
second drive is mapped as a directory on C:.
The maps in this directory (and the root map wher the drive is mapped to)
go's automatic to the read only state. I can change the flag off but each
time the system turns it on again. There is no error message when I try to
change the flag and the user has administrative rights on the machine. Even
I as a domain administrator have the same problem.

The effect is that it is imposible to remove, move or rename the maps.

Is there someone out there who has an idee what's going on here or how I can
search for the program or what-so-ever who's changing the read-write state
of those maps.

Greets,
All directory folders have the read-only bit set. Evidently, for a
directory, this bit means something other than read only, if it means
anything at all.
What problem do you have that makes you think can be traced to this
information?

Read-only means nothing for folders. Only a file can be Read-only.

The Read-only check box for folders is there for convenience, it allows you
to change the Read-only attribute of all the files contained in that folder.
---

[[Apply the read-only attribute to folder contents

A folder itself cannot be made read-only. Nevertheless, the properties
dialog box for a folder does include a read-only check box. You can use
this check box to set or clear the read-only attribute for all existing
files in the selected folder. This action has no bearing on files that you
create subsequently.

In most cases, when you open the properties dialog box for a folder, the
Read-Only check box will contain a green square. This indicates either a
mixed or undetermined condition. Windows displays this green square because
it would take too long to check the state of the read-only attribute for
every file in the folder. To apply the read-only attribute to the contents
of a folder, click the check box until a check mark appears. To clear the
attribute, click the check box until it is empty. When you leave the dialog
box, Windows asks whether you want to apply your action to subfolders and
files. Be sure you select this option; if you select Apply Changes To This
Folder Only, nothing at all happens.]]

attribute for files in the folder.]]

Hello,

After changing the registry as mentioned in:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q256614
I could rename and move a directory in the mapped drive but I can't still
remove the directory (I got an error telling that the directory is in use).
once I move the directory to my C: drive or to a directory located fysicaly
on my C: drive, I can delete the directory without any problem.

Someone with more sugestions?

Greets,

Jean Paul
