ok
corsair tech support says i have to run this RAM test a few times with
one stick installed in the slot closest to the cpu then with the other
stick installed.
if one RAM fails they will replace the pair, if both RAM fail then he
says it is probably some other prob with the PC causing the boot to
stop.
i have placed the file named memtest86+-2.01.iso on a CD
(this file is too large to fit on a floppy),
but now cannot figure out why it won't boot.
I changed the boot priority so the CD drive is first, the hdd is
second and the floppy is third.
(it had been floppy first, then hdd then cd.)
there are [brackets] around the CD drive in the BIOS setup, which the
bios says means the drive is not active but
The DVD-R drive works because I can read off it and was able to copy
the file to the CD, but when I start the PC with the CD in the drive
POST halts at the same place as when it is hanging
(right at the RAM line).
I have power cable and a SATA cable going to it.
there is no place for an IDE cable
it is a lite-on 16XDVD-R SHW160P65-04
there is a small male connector but i do not know what that's for.
