Hi,
At my Internet Explorer (using Ver6.0 and SP1), if i key
in example www.microsoft.com then it is not responding
but when i key in like http://www.microsoft.com then it
is responding.

Why can't i access any website without "http://" at the
address?

Previously i am able to access with out key in http, but
since few (10) days i am not able to do above.

Please help me on this. Prior thanks.

Regards
Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Turn on the inline AutoComplete feature for Web addresses:

1.. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2.. Click the Advanced tab.
3.. Under Browsing, click the Use inline AutoComplete for Web addresses
check box, and then click OK.

If this does not help, open Registry (regedit.exe) and goto the following
key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPref
ix

In the right-pane, set the data for the value "default" to "http://"

Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I tried both of your ways,
but the result is same. Still i am not able to access any
website without giving "http://". This is happening since
i installed Symantec Norton Anti Virus and scanned my
computer after i Live Update.

Please assist me.

Ravi, try this.

Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Includes: Repair the corrupted or altered (spyware) HTTP prefixes
See section: Various Registry Fixes = "RepairDefaultPrefix.reg"
[or - manually]
Open Regedit to the following locations and verify the below default
entries:
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"

"www"="http://"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]

Hi Henri Leboeuf,

First of all i am very sorry for my late response and i
am verymuch thankful to your support. I checked all your
listed settings at regedit, all are same as like you
mention.

I am not sure why still it is giving problem? Do you want
me reinstall Internet Explorer6.0?

Thanks & Regards
Ravi

AutoComplete
for Web addresses
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers value "default"
to "http://"

Ravi,

I had the same problem as you have now. I used one of the
methods described by Leboeuf and now everything is working
again.

Go to http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Find section: Various Registry Fixes

Download "RepairDefaultPrefix.reg"

To use: download - right-click and select: Edit to view in
Notepad.
Right-click and select: Merge - to enter the info into the
Registry, and reboot.

Note: always backup the Registry before making any
changes. Also be aware these reg files are intended for
stand-alone or home users. Corporate users are urged to
check with their network supervisor before removing
restrictions.

This should hopefully work!

Good luck!

André
