Chris Kam

I'm using Toshiba P3500, and was very happy with the XP built-in function to
shrink or reduce the file size of my digital photos for sending out email
pursuant to what was suggested by Mr. Ed Bott in Microsoft Expert Zone -
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/expertzone/columns/bott/03may19.asp

However, recently after I installed Office XP SP1 & SP2 via Windows Update,
my such happy experience past and gone! Now whenever I click "E-mail this
file" on the left-hand side column in My Pictures, my only and default email
client MS Outlook XP pops up and attaches the photos in its original file
size. Too bad for my recipients using 56k dial-up connection. Kindly
advise. Thank you very much.
Regards

You are very welcome, Chris. Also, thanks for the 'great' comments. :o)

Sorry that was the wrong edit. Won't cause harm though. It allows an image
to be automatically resized for viewing in IE to fit the window.

Generally speaking, Start/Run/regsvr32 shimgvw.dll usually corrects this
issue. However, for some users not even the PowerToy Resizer works:

I can only suggest trying one of the Outlook groups. Good luck and post
back with your findings.

Hello, Kelly. This is a follow-up. I've just received an email directly
from the learned Mr. Bott about how to fix the problem. And it works
perfectly! Given that I didn't have the necessary authority from Mr. Bott
to release its content, I will be grateful if Mr. Bott's solution would be
published in this newsgroup asap for the good of all XP users. Kelly,
thanks again for your technical assistance.

Hello Kelly. This is a follow-up. I've just received an email directly
from Mr. Ed Bott. And the problem is now fixed. I wish Mr. Ed Bott will be
kind enough to post his solution in this newsgroup coz I don't think I have
his consent to release the content of his email. After all, thank you
Kelly. Regards.

This is another follow-up. Just received email from Mr. Ed Bott (see below)
so that I paste his technical solution in this post. Sorry for
inconvenience for all members/readers of this newsgroup.
Glad to hear that. I'd appreciate it if you would post a follow-up article
on the newsgroups with a link to this article!

Ed

Subject: Your post on the Windows XP newsgroup

I saw your note on the XP newsgroup about my article on the Expert Zone.

The solution may be in this follow-up article I wrote:

http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000035.html

Please let me know if that solves the problem for you.

Sorry that I don't realise http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000035.html
is old news. Maybe the text wrapping makes the reading difficult.

Mr. Ed Bott wrote "Glad to hear that. I'd appreciate it if you would post a
follow-up article on the newsgroups with a link to this article! Ed".

So I paste his solution: "Subject: Your post on the Windows XP newsgroup. I
saw your note on the XP newsgroup about my article on the Expert Zone. The
solution may be in this follow-up article I wrote:
http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000035.html. Please let me know if
that solves the problem for you."

Have I done anything wrong?

Nope, you didn't do anything wrong, Chris other than take two days to reply
a two word fix that worked for you.

"My old news" comment is to the fix. If you followed the link I posted, you
will see that the fix has been supplied, not only by me (and is listed on my
site), but by many others, in these groups before your post.

That said, there was no need for secrecy. Especially for others needing the
fix. Not all posters use Google, read old replies or search. It took my
writing to you and Ed to get the post made here.

Bottom line is that your reply could have been considered a taunt. When a
thread is started, we aim to complete it with a happy ending. I didn't give
up on 'you'.

For the rest of you guys/gals:
