WHY can't powerpoint support multiple instances?

Excel, Word, Outlook, even Visio allows multiple instances to be open.
What is the real reason behind Powerpoint's inability to open multiple
instances?

Many of you have suggested workarounds such as:
1) Arrange All
2) Stretch the window to cover all monitors
3) Launch a second instance using a different user account.

However, none of these workarounds is user-friendly. (For some large
corporations, the third option cannot be executed.)

Don't the developers use BING for consumer satisfaction research anymore?

So the REAL REASON please.

Hi Sand,

No one here in the newsgroups works for MS, so we can't speak for them ...
however, since typically, only one presentation can be in SHOW mode at a
time, they seem to intentionally limit the number of instances.

A simple pair of Macros can be written to do the steps and pushed out to
corporate users.
First Macro will record the spanned size and location of the PowerPoint
window (only needs to be run once).
Second Macro will expand the PowerPoint application window to this size
and arrange all open presentation editing windows.

However, if you feel strongly about this, there is another option ...

Of course, I should have clarified that PPT 2010 is in early beta / tech
preview (or whatever it's called) -- but it *will* do this once it's
available! :-)

You can open multiple Powerpoint windows by opening your files in Internet Explorer instead of Powerpoint. Right click on your file and select Open With. If you have Internet Explorer installed it should be one of your options. Select Internet Explorer. Your file should open in a browser window in presentation mode. Right click on a slide and you will get a context menu allowing you to select edit slides. You should now have access to all of the normal Powerpoint editing menus. You can do this for multiple files with each file opening in its own browser window. This doesn't work with Firefox since it wants to pass the files out to the Powerpoint app.
