When I was running windows 98 I could see all the other
computers on my home network (4 pcs), but since I
installed windows 2000 I can't see anyone. I know that the
connections are good because I can still get online
through my computer down stairs. I think one of the
problems is that I'm using a hub instead of switch or
router, but other than that I don't know what it could be
because all the stuff required is installed.

Not really sure, but it could be that you are using FAT32 instead of NTFS

Convert to NTFS

Ensure you have IPC$ share on W2k machine ('net share' from CommandPrompt).
If not, recreate it as 'net share ipc$'. Patch and update W2k immediately
(WindowsUpdate). Install antivirus software and perform a full scan.
