Probably because the game is being a little naughty in that its writing to
area's of the computer that it shouldn't be.

Games should be saving their options and saves under your user folder
somewhere. What's the game in question?

How is saving to its own parent folder naughty? Microsoft better come up
with a fix for it.

What I did with these games is to set them to "run as administartor"
and then all is well. Of course I turned off UAC and to not notify me
otherwise its a pain in the ass.

The Program Files directory requires administrative rights. The user folder
doesn't, all data should be stored there, that's the way its been for years.

Games that require administrative rights are also broken on Windows XP, just
more people run everything as an administrator by default.
