Client machine is running XP-Pro
Server is running NT 4.0
When using LAN connection< I can access server and map
drives.
When using dial-up to server ( LAN disabled),I can log
on,or so it appears,but CANNOT access nor map shared
drives.
I've tried various resolution options,unsuccessfully.
Does anybody have a clue ?
Your response is GREATLY appreciated.

Could be a name resolution issue.

Whan you are connected by dial-up, can you ping the machine
you want to connect to by both IP address AND name?

eg:
ping aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
ping server1

If your NT4 network is using WINS, are you pointing at the WINS server?
Do an Ipconfig /all when connected to see.
Here's where you set it:

Dial-up networking connection,
Properties,
Networking tab;
Dbl-click TCP/IP;
Advanced button;
WINS tab.

Thank you for your response.........
knew it had to be resolution issues,tried wins and dns
routing without success ( at first ) then added ipx
transport and whalha ! Started working.
Thank you for confirming the name resoultion possibility,
it helped me focus in that direction.
