Why can't I get the transfer rate to ata-100 ?

My transfer rate for both drives that are on the secondary ide channel can't
be changed from mode 2 (ata 33). Both drives are ata 100 rated. I have ata
100 rated cable (blue, gray, black plugs). Both drives are set at Ultra
DMA. I have tried setting the bios at auto and have also tried setting
manually to ata-100. Both cd-rom drives keep ending up at UDMA Mode 2. I
have tried replacing the cable and also tried to uninstall the secondary ide
channel and reboot. It goes right back to ata 33. My hard drive is on the
primary master channel by itself and is at mode 5 (ata 100). What do I need
to do to get my drives to the mode 5 transfer rate? I have the Epox 8KHA
mother board that is ata 100 rated.

Thanks
MJ

I had a similar problem when I could not achieve ata 133(I only got ata
100). I installed the drivers for my motherboard
(I have a via chipset so i installed the hyperion 4 in one drivers) and
after reboot everything worked.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Unfortunatly for me.......I also installed the hyperion 4 in one drivers in
place of the Microsoft via drivers to no avail.

I have never seen a CD drive that runs at anything other than ATA-33.

Soon many CD manufacturer's will be offering the first SATA
based drives and recorders. For now, I think all PATA CD's
are UDMA-Mode 2, The BIOS auto detects it and I've never
encountered one that is a higher level UDMA.
I think Plextor's new 16X DVD recorder is going to be available
in SATA, but most mfg's are limiting them to the OEM channel.

Are you sure the CD drives are ATA 100? Very few are more than ATA 2:
the 33 M bytes sec that corresponds to would be enough for a 200 speed
CD drive
