Why can't I enter a new event on my calendar?

the abbot

Nothing happens when I type something onto a day in my calendar and if I try
to open a new event window from the drop down menu, again, nothing happens.

I am using 203 version. Is there a diagnostic facility there also and if so, how do I access it?
