Why can my power users install software? They can't
install stinking patches without admin rights, but they
sure can install weatherbug, winamp, and instant
messengers out the wazoo, how can I fix this?

I couldn't help but laugh. You are in the same boat I'm in. I
just don't get it. It takes 10 minutes for some computers to boot where I
work and users complain about how slow they are. All that stuff is spyware.

Well, for the most part, you must excuse my ignorance, the
users are unable to add network printers if they are not
members of the power users group, and it seemed there was
some other little trivial things along that line they
couldn't do. I have been reading the 2000 resource kit,
and it does nothing but confuse me. That is why I have
been playing around with the different groups. The
resource kit says power users CAN install applications and
perform administrative tasks, yet from what I have seen,
they CAN'T install software (except for the useless crap I
have stated above) or perform administrative tasks such as
patching.....Am I reading it wrong???

I am also in the same situation. We did it because some apps don't work if
they are not in the power users group.

What the "power users" group does is allowing every installation as long as
it doesn't change windows files or windows reg settings.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change all the users local groups in
one time, maybe with a script?

Sorry, been on vacation. See that is the confusing part.
in doing some research on WeatherBug, it does make some
registry entries. However, from reading the resource kit,
it looks like power users are able to write to certain
parts of the registry, particularly HKLM\Software. I
don't know seems like the whole thing is just flawed to me.
