Why Can I not Update eScan AntiVirus Toolkit Utility?

It worked once. Now whenever I run kavupd.exe, the response is:

KAV Updater DLL API
ANSI Version.

That is it. It does nothing else. All the files are in C:\downloads,
so what is the problem?
 
Have you tried removing the contents of "C:\Downloads" & reinstalling
eScan?

Do you hsve a firewall that may be blocking eScan updater?

Yes, and I tried removing everything from C:\bases as well.

No. Seems to be a lost cause anyway since eScan apparently does not
clean anything. Instead, it just responds with a notice to buy the
full version if it detects malware. I was under the impression that
it would rename the file. Looks like this is a recent change that
started with the latest version.
