Why are some of my emails permanently deleted upon arrival?

Some emails are permanently deleted as soon as they arrive in my Inbox. For
example, I signed up to receive emails from Scotts Lawncare Updates, and as
soon as the email arrives from Scotts, it disappears, nowhere to be found.
 
Might they be trapped by the spam features? Check the Tools menu > Options >
Junk E-mail options
