Hi
running Vista basic that came with a new Dell Inspiron 530 ,pretty pleased
with the set up and running but I'm not upgrading until I find out why my
internal and external CD letters disappear from "My Computer."
I tried to reload and carry out a repair but nothing happened, system restore
does not bring them back.
Tried a full Vista re-install now when I blot up I get the option of TWO
Window Vista programs!
Top one is the new install[which means no anti-virus unless a massive
download again[but does have the two cd roms there or the bottom one which
is my previous one with no cd roms but all my window updates and virus
programme.
This happens every month and it's hacking me off back to XP shortly unless I
can get it sorted, all window updates are on there so it's not that. Thanks if
you can

1) I lose access to my CD/DVD burner each time I install Apple's
iTunes/Quicktime software. Apple STILL hasn't fixed this problem in
the 2 years since iTunes was released for Windows.

Uninstalling iTunes fixes it everytime, so I know the problem is
iTunes, not Vista.
Using the registry fix of removing "UpperFilters" sub-key fixes it,
but breaks iTunes's ability to export or import files to and from
disk.

2) If you wound up with two installations of Vista on the SAME
computer, it is because you failed to DELETE, then recreate the OLD
partition containing your first copy of Vista. Or you failed to
create a NEW partition for the second copy of Vista. In any case, you
reinstalled Vista improperly.

Vista WON'T "automatically" do this. YOU must do it yourself during
installation.
