why am I getting duplicate emails?

when an incoming email is listed on my page it is listed 2 times. This
started last night.

Do you have duplicate Accounts set up at Tools>accounts, if so delete one of
them.
 
What I have configured is two different accounts with two DIFFERENT userids:
redheadl-l and linda-lee42, corresponding to two different and completely
independent ids defined to my ISP.

With this configuration, mails addressed to redheadl-l are duplicated.
Mails addressed to linda-lee42 disappear completely.

Until fairly recently, this configuration worked correctly but now it is
just generating duplicates. However, your suggestion prompted me to examine
my two accounts more carefully and I noted an incorrect address in the
Incoming Mail Server Username field. How it got there I don't know. As I
said, it formerly worked. Anyway, it's all working well now and I'll know
where to look if it happens again. Thanks for your help
