Why is it that recently, the majority of initial posts showing on this NG
are "Re:" threads with no original thread appearing?
My history (OE6) goes back to 1 Feb., and no way are the original queries
posted prior to that date.
And no, not many are cross-posted ones.

Long exposure to spammers using the same trick in the Subject line of
e-mails, I guess.

Because people are responding to posts older than 2-1-04 (it could be) or........ your newsserver could be dropping posts or.......... you might have it set to delete headers or...........you might have hide read messages ticked or.........

I have a rule set to dlete messages older than 5 days. In this group for there are 2,572 meaages over the last 5 days and I see no majority of Re: as initial posts at all.

No, I have nothing blocked, no hide read messages and no rules set.
Of the most recent 30 posts, 22 of them are just "Re:"
A mystery.

A typical example is one received 10 minutes ago:
Subject: Re: Right click (Tools window)

In the body it says in part (and means he's replying to an original post,
posted on the date below)

Well something is funky because the original post was @ 12:41 PM (USA Central Standard) on 3-12-04:

"When I right click within an Internet explorer window to copy or paste an item, I have a link to a web page that I'm not sure how to get rid off. If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Josh"

Open your options panel and take a look, also open View | Current view | see what is checked. There are about 500 posts between then and now.

Hi,
Must be a setting at your end of the line.
I went for 16,000 message headers ( in 1,000 increments) and got (a coarse
estimate of) less than 1% of those "Re:"...nothing else.

Another thought, do you have it set up to group messages by conversation? That is also in current view.
