Why Access XP Grows SO BIG?

I have a program which pulls data form ODBC Oracle
tables.

When I run the Access 97 Version, it grows from 178K To
320 K.

When I run the Access XP Version, it grows from 178K To
1,175K. If I re-run without compacting, it will blow up
at 2,075K!

Why does this happen?

How can I stop this?

Later versions of Access are more prone to growing than earlier ones. But,
without some detail information on your database, it would be impossible for
us to offer any worthwhile suggestions on what you might do to limit the
growth.

Access does not reclaim "vacated" space formerly used by now-deleted records
or objects until you run a Compact. In cases (rarer now than in earlier
versions) it may reuse some vacated space, but you can't count on it.
Certain queries also generated internal working storage that isn't
reclaimed, as well.
