I installed 256 Mb on my Compaq Evo N115 and it keeps
hanging every time I use it. This doesn´t happens with a
128 Mb memory. Does anybody knows if there is anything
one can do to get around this problem?

You might check to see if the new stick is good:

Also make sure it properly matches the specs for your system and other
requirements your setup might have.

Greetings --

It is absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new RAM
configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the
manufacturer's web site for specific instructions and compatibility
requirements.

If you cannot lay your hands upon the computer's manual and the
manufacturer doesn't provide a support web site, you can use these
utilities to help determine the correct type of RAM needed:

Also, Crucial Memory's web site (www.crucial.com) has a database
to help to find the right RAM for your specific make and model
computer and/or motherboard.

Thanks for the answers!
I´ve tried two different brands of memory, which both are
supposed to be compatibles, and the result is the same.
I´ve used some of the tests avaiable on the Internet, and
it says the memory is good. I had a look at HP´s site and
their advice was to install Service Pack SP2, but that
doesn´t seem as a good idea to me, beeing a beta. Is this
a problem of Windows XP?

Each stick may well be good, but just can't work as a pair.. does the last
stick of memory bought work well if installed without the old memory?..

Thanks for the answers!

Two brands of memory?? Did you try one from the manufacturer of your box. Do
the memories have exactly the same latency?

This is not a Windows issue. Almost certainly the RAM you
installed is bad, wrong for your computer, or mismatched.

Please clarify. Somehow I am getting the impression that you already had
128MB of Ram in your Noterbook, and then added a new stick containing
256MB additional Ram. Is that correct or am I just flat wrong? Another
way to ask the question, are you trying to increase your RAM to 256MB or
is it 384MB?
