I have read the article
http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q285903 and
followed the fix listed therein.
However, upon examining other servers including an untouched testing server,
I found that the Power Users Group was listed in the Local Security Policy
but the Event ID errors were not comming up in the App log.

Why is that happening? Was something done to that server to start triggering
the Local Security Policies?

TIA
Ivo

Is the server that a receives the error a DC? DCs do not have the power
users group so they will get this error if power users is listed in the
policy. Member servers do have a power users group so they do not have this
problem.

All servers are DC's.

when i can get back on to msnews.microsoft.com ..

have seen this when testing the security templates shipped with Microsoft
security operations guide

for some reason the scripts modifies user rights policy rights assignments
to include "power users" when not as you say defined on a DC !!!
