When I'm online I get a message box suddenly appearing on the screen
and then the computer shuts down. The message reads:

'Shutdown initiated. NT authority system. Service terminated
unexpectedly.'

Any clues to what might be causing this?

I've been plagued by viruses recently so I'm running F-Prot and
Zonealarm.

Many thanks

Mel

Something kill one of your svchost.exe process. There maby be loaded more
then one if you look in task manager, but only one specific make that system
shutdown.
Scan for a viruses and be behind the firewall when you are online. And
update your windows!

Abort the shut down (Windows XP: run shutdown -a), run compmgmt.msc and go
to Services. Look for services that are *supposed* to be running
("Automatic") but are *actually* stopped.

You might also look in event logs.
