What whois (domain name lookup) programs can be recommended,
preferably Boomer (where is he?) sized and not abandonware?

"My Name" surmised:
I think ms. Boomer would recommend Sam Spade here:
http://samspade.org/ssw/

Thanks, not that small really, looks like SpamDigger with a much nicer
interface and more features. Both are abandonware though, but
SpamDigger uses a lot less memory and hd space.

I had a look at SpamDigger, SamSpade and ZAlert (ZoneAlarm add-on),
all 3 consistently give different look-up results. How does one know
which one is correct, I wonder.

Well... hello Mark! Very long time no see! Glad to see you here.
:) Cool blast from the past! :)

I am not at my computer at the moment and can't tell you of the
little program I did use quite often. Lately I have use these
online sites:
http://www.canufly.net/~georgegg/dns/
http://www.dnsstuff.com/

Wish I could be of more help but I'm sure others can tell you about
any new software that can be of help to you.

Have you checked out http://www.freewarehome.com lately?
Or SOS's site? Sorry I don't have the link handy. :(
www.webattack.com?

Nice seeing you! :)

Hmm, was certain I saw you recommend it before.
No matter, I assure you, I'll not be so presumptuous again!
