Are Acer laptops any good ?

I'm beginning to hear people brag about Lenovo.

I personally have a Dell and love it. 3 years old and still plugging
along. A new battery of course but nothing else.

Am not sure...but for me its ugly, a friend of mine had an Acer,
after a year its LCD screen malfunctions, the keyboard get stuck and
optical drive goes blind....

I have no personal experience with them, but I can say according to
"PC Magazine's" Reader Response Surveys, Acers have the lowest
"needed repair" rate of any laptop over the last two years, including
Apple. Considering what Acer sells them for, this is to me remarkable.
They must have some good QC going.
I have an El Cheapo Acer desktop,almost 2 years old, & never had a bit
of trouble with it.

Hmm its good to hear to hear that, one of friend who is a laptop
dealer tried to convince me to get their 17 inch desktop replacement
system,.... but , damn........its ugly<grin>....
