Who knows about ports?

Help....I am trying to get on a newsgroup..but I get an error message
:unable to connect to server" when I find the newsgroup in the internet it
says that "no longer works on 119 because of the SWEN virus"..it works on
120 and 80...what does this mean to me who am on port 119?....if I can
change to 120 or 80 what will happen?

80 is the port for http - the web interface for the newsgroup.

120, it appears, is the alternate port the newsgroup server is using in
place of 119. That's the one you would use if you want to read the
newsgroup in a newsreader.

If you use OE's Tools> Accounts menu, you can select the news server and
then click Properties. On the advanced page, you can change the default 119
to 120 or whatever port that particular news server is using.
