Who has the brains tonight????

I turned on my remote access and added my username into allowed list, went
away on a service call, returned to find my system cannot
ping/view/speak/yell at anything on the network. Not sure how or why but
apparently lost all network connectivity. The network connection icon looks
really happy though, no sign of grief at all. Thinking my 5 port switch went
south I replaced. No dice. Then I tried another NIC. No dice. I was also in
local group policies to allow remote access but didn't think I'd changed
anything. I really don't think I did. But I'm now SOL for network access. I
made sure all firewalls are turned off. Nada zilch, zippo. Anyone out there
who can step me through ALL the possible blockages that might prevent me from
gaining network access?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my brain is now mush.

You might look at the event logs to see if there is anything apparent.

Hey Sooner, I checked both System and application logs and nothing jumped out
at me. Here's a snippit of what I'm dealing with. I have a w2k server with 2
nics. Nic1 is to primary network, Nic2 is to my private network the one that
isn't working. The server can ping Nic2 interface but not beyond. It's
plugged into a 5port switch. The workstation can ping localhost but also not
beyond. It is also plugged into same 5port switch. I plugged another
workstation into switch to see if it's workstation or server related and
found workstation showed same symptoms which leads me to server configuration
issue. Since multiple nics in DC servers is non standard to MS standards I'm
not that familiar with it. I'm guessing it would be something as simple as
sticking another nic inside server, configure for new network and then plug
into switch.

Here's the nic configurations of Nic1 and Nic2:

Nic1 - IP192.168.1.4, SUB255.255.255.0,DEF192.168.1.19,DNS192.168.1.19
Nic2 - IP192.168.72.1 SUB255.255.255.0,DEF(Blank), DNS192.168.1.4

192.168.1.19 is my PDC
1.4 is my BDC

Firewalls are disabled on both nics.
Just from this info does anything jump out at your end that could be wrong?

When was the last time you rebooted EVERYTHING?

Just now and low and behold my system works again. ????? wierd. My guess is
my server probably stopped listening on that interface. Now I get to setup my
remote access again and see how far I get.

Thanks to all who read.

I'm just a lowly programmer with enough CCNA education to make me dangerous
BUT.....

Whenever machines start acting wonky, I reboot everything. Sometimes that
cures the wonkiness, sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes you feel like a nutbar. Sometimes you don't! :o)
