Who does searching for messages in Outlook takes so long?

Ah.. I remember the time I could search 20.000+ messages (fulltext) in
Eudora in about 10 seconds, and even faster if the mailboxes had been
indexed
before.

Since then I have a much faster computer, and still.. if I try to
search my Inbox folder (hardly 5.000 messages) it takes HOOOUUUURS
(well, not really, but a few MINUTES at least) to search this folder
completely.

Why is this? Why can't Microsoft find a message as quickly as Eudora
could (still CAN btw, I still use Eudora 5.2 for personal mails) and
is there a way to fasten it, is there a third party tool, etc..

I really hope someone can answer me this question, as I'm sure I'm not
the only one who is annoyed by this.

Thanks!

Version of Outlook? Why can't Eudora display calendar and tasks? (The
answer to that is the same as the answer for why outlook is slower...)

I've been using 2007, which worked extremely slow, I switched back to
2003, which is ok, but still, quite slow.

Of course I know Outlook can do more stuff (most of which I don't use,
but ok), but still, searching 5733 messages for a 5 letter word takes
45 seconds (with 10 results), it should be possible to do this faster.
To Ben Schorr.. 30.000 messages in seconds.. man.. what am I doing
wrong here? I know I don't have the fastest PC, but still, it's a P IV/
2.66 with 1 Gig RAM and a 500 MB RAID striping system. Don't anyone
have the same problem (and even better: a solution ;) )

Thanks,

Jos Verstappen.

it sounds like you don't have windows desktop search installed. Outlook 2007
uses it as the search engine. it's much better than the old search engine
(which is used if WDS is not available).
