Which would give better performance P4B vs P4S8X

Hello everyone.

I've got both of these boards and want to run a P4 2.4GHz (400MHz FSB)
CPU. I wanted to know how much of a performance difference would it be
running one board over the other. Basically everything else would be the
same i.e. video, sound, network card etc.

Thank you in advance

But not the memory, of course. The P4S8X would win by a large margin
simply because it uses DDR SDRAM, a board with SDR SDRAM offers too
little memory bandwidth.

Some people used to claim that using more than a 1.8GHz P4 on the P4B
would be a waste, due to memory bandwidth starvation by SDRAM.

As for the P4S8X, isn't that the board that had the Vcore power supply
problems ? (I think the P4S8X-X is OK.) You might be OK using the
2.4GHz on it, but overclocking the 2.4GHz or using a 3.06GHz may
lead to instability. Use the search engine on abxzone.com for more
details.

Thats what I've been told that the memory constraints placed on the bus
with SDR SDRAM would restrict the P4B's performance ratings.

Thanks to both replies.

The P4S8X has an SIS chipset. They frequently, but no always, have timing
problems. I'd use the P4B.
