Which Wireless Router

I'm stuck guys and really don't know what to do. I need to get a wireless
router - I have a pc with XP and a new laptop with Vista but each router I
look at doesn't say if it's Vista compatible. Does anybody know what's good,
that's not too expensive and I can get hold of from somewhere like Curry's/PC
World/Dixons? (I'm UK based)

Plus, once I've hold of a compat. router, what problems am I likely to have
with Vista and wireless, if any?

Thanks for any help.

Rob,

I can't think of any reason a router has to be compatible with Vista. There
are no drivers to install and typically, the routers are accessed via the
browser for setup and making changes. I have a LinkSys WRT54GS v2 model and
have a mixed network with Vista and WinXP and no problems.

By the way, the LinkSys router has been top rated for home, small business
applications. Has built-in SPI firewall and configurable wireless security
features and the price is right. Around $70USD so that means you'll pay
double that most likely....

I got a D-Link Wireless G ADSL2/2+ Router, to attach to my new Packard Bell
SW51-BO12 laptop with Vista, using my Virgin Broadband connection (the old
Speedtouch adaptor would not work at all). Upon plugging everything in and
trying it out, I could not get any of the LAN lights to come up. After
calling various helplines (including D-Link themselves, who are useless) I
took it back to the store where they replaced it with another. The same
problem happened, exactly (and I checked the Ethernet cable and so on). In
the end I took this back as well, and replaced it with the (slightly more
expensive) Belkin Wireless G+ Mimo Modem Router, which worked perfectly from
the beginning. It's possible there may be some problem with D-Link and Vista
and/or D-Link and Packard-Bell laptops. Anyhow, I'd be wary about getting a
D-Link Router (though they seem the cheapest) for this reason.

A router is a router is a router. It should work with xp, vista, mac,
linux, beos, unix or whatever.

You could run into a lack of compatible drivers for the wireless card -
that's wherein the difficulty may lie.

If your router is ethernet, it SHOULD work. If it's USB, it may have issues
(before anyone complains that routers are all ethernet, there are TP-Link
DSL Modem/Routers that include a USB connection).

But, if you need to replace it, the Linksys WRT54GL is good (stay away from
the WRT54G for now).

Using a Linksys purchased from PC World on Virgin Media (formerley NTL)
Cable here, no problems at all.
