Which will be better?

Which is going to give me more over the next year, a 9800 128MB or a 9600
256MB?

Is the greater memory worth the lower speed, or will the128MB on the 9800
get me through the next year or more?

I'd get the 9800

The memory makes about F all difference in 95% of stuff. The 9600Pro 128mb
will always be better than a 256mb 9600 for most things ..and the 9800 will
be alot faster than both. Surely the big price difference between the 9600
and 9800 is a clue here.
As far as what to buy.. I've always found buying 'mid-range' components on a
more regular basis than buying 'high-end' and expecting it to last a better
option. What I mean is say you buy the 9800Pro which is about twice the
price of a 9600.. now in a years time your 9800pro ain't gonna be showing
directX 10 games off aswell a it could.. but if you had bought the 9600 then
the spare money you saved could buy you your new 'mid-range' directX 10
Radeon-12000(or whatever they call it) in a years time.. and lets face it,
buying a 9600 isn't going to give you a 'slow' videocard and its gonna play
all the games you want just fine for the next 12months until you buy your
new shiny directX 10 card :-) Also it means you get to buy more gear for
your pc... half the fun for me when getting a new component is shopping
around.. reading reviews.. comparing benchmarks.. getting your new 'toy' in
the post! ..unpacking it.. installing it.. overclocking it.. loads up your
old games and seeing how much better they are.. etc etc.. and you'll get to
do all of this twice as often! Maybe i'm just sad though..

So in conclusion.. The 9800 is faster (not just because of the faster clock
but also the 8 pipelines etc) and makes much more difference than the
memory.

The 9800 every day of the week and twice on Sundays. The extra clock speed
and raw power will be overwhelmingly more benficial than the largely
untapped extra memory of the 256Mb 9600.

There are 9800's available for about the same price as the 9600 Pro 256 MB.

Also, I am seeing plenty of AquaMark3 scores for 9600 Pro's that barely
scrape along a hair faster than my Ti 4200 64MB which really makes me wonder
quite a number of things.

If thats true, then the 9600 Pros will be able to deal with much more eye
candy at for the same FPS, if you like.
