I'm MSDN Universal Subscriber and switched to Team Edition for
Developers in order to download the latest VS.NET 2005 version. What a
mess the hellish MSDN Subscription is!

I can see Professional Edition 2005 with 10/28/2005 release date and
Team System Release Candidate with a newer release date. Which version
is the latest stable? That is, MS announced few weeks ago that MSDN
Universal Subscribers could download VS.NEt 2005 final version while
DVD is shipped to subscribers. I think they talked about Professional
edition but..........I would like to hear you, developer's opinion.

Thanks.

Lonifasiko,

There're probably equally stable and have the same core components, but Team
System has more features. I ended up getting Team System Developer, but it's
hard to choose!

Thanks Ginny,

Yes, I also upgraded to Team Edition for Developers my MSDN universal
Subscription but now I'm talking about which version of VS.NET 2005 did
you download? Team System Release Candidate or VS.NET 2005
Professional? I suppose the last one is the final release, not a
release candidate, but what it's strange is that the release date is
newer for Team System RC.

Regards.

Everyone with a universal subscription was switched to Professional edition.
There is then a process (differs depending on your region) to transition
your account to one of the Team Edition for* editions - e.g. Tester,
Developer, Architect. See here for details:-
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/subscriptions/maketransition/

The full Team Suite version is now part of a higher tier subscription - see
the comparison chart here:-
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/subscriptions/chart/

So the best download for you - if you need it right now download
Professional. Then submit your transition choice to receive the specific
Team Edition for * edition that most suits you. If you can wait before
installing do this first, it will take a day or two for your account to be
updated. Also your transition choice is important to do as soon as you can
as it will also affect the version sent to you on CD/DVD.

Avoid Team Suite Release Candidate as this is a pre-release version,
although fairly close to the release version it's still effectively a beta
product, you certainly shouldn't use it to write production code.

Lonifasiko,

I downloaded Team System Release Candidate and it's been working fine for
me.

Thanks very much Peter.

Yes, I have today made the transition towards Team Edition for
Developers, but I'm afraid this DVD won't arrive till middle December.
Or just making the transition lets you download the corresponding final
release of VS.NET 2005? Have you said that or did I understand you
wrong?

I think I'll try with Professional Edition, that seems to be the choice
for most of us. But in case the subscription transition lets me
download another different version of VS.NET 2005 and more complete
that Professional Edition (would be Team Edition for Developers in my
case), let me know please.

Thanks very much.

I downloaded the Team Developer DVD without problems (except that it took
all night!) But it installed fine using the virtual CD utility on MSDN.
