Which video card?!?

I'm going to be buying a video card in a week, but I'm not sure which
one will give me the best punch for my money. I've decided on the ATI
Rdeon 9600. The SE version comes with 256 DDR, the 9600 XT comes with
128, but the bus speed, clock, etc is much faster. It's about a $70
difference. I'm willing to spend the extra money, but only if it's
going to be a noticeable difference (otherwise, I'm going to buy the
SE and another 512 of ram, bringing the total to 1 gig). Is there a
big enough difference between the XT and SE to justify spending
another $70? Thanks!

you'd probably get a more accurate answer in the
alt.comp.periphs.videocard.ati newsgroup (think that's the one).

Is your motherboard capable of supporting AGP 8X speed? The cards you listed
run better at the speed.

How about saving yourself a bunch of problems and go with an Nvidia
card. Your foing to come to hate ATI.

Even though I'm partial to nVidia since it's the first type I tried,
I've installed ATI cards on friends systems, and they're as good.

Zeligg, look at some comparisons first. Here's a great start:

Oh the hardware is great. The driver bundles or a mess and the tech
support is worse than Microsoft.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Actually I was off. It wasn't an SE
that I was looking at but a pro. According to Tom's hardware, the XT
doesn't work all that much faster than the pro, so I'm going with that
(will miss that half life 2 bundle, tho!). The reason I'm going with
ATI is I already own an Nvidia (4). I like it, it's a nice enough
card, but I got a laptop through work that had a Radeon chipset on it
and I'm very impressed with it. My friend picked up one of the 9600s
that I'm looking at, and it seems to be a beautiful card.

Got to say I switched the other way specifically because of their tech
support. ATI's "support" was crap.
