I am thinking of purchasing the Home Premium edition.
I have one other PC on XP Pro and need to share files.
Will the Home Premium edition allow that?

Yes, any version of Vista will allow home networking between any other
version of Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 ...

yep, Home Prem will probably be all that 80% or better of the home users
will need. Though Home Basic will allow you to share files

Yes, Home Premium enables you to do that. You will also be able to share
printers.
