I tried installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Home Edition and got an
"access denied" error. The one I downloaded was from the Windows Update
screen.

Should I try to download it from the one I find on the MS website that says
its for "IT Professionals and Developers", even thought it says "DO NOT CLICK
DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate
download is now available on Windows Update."?

You can.

The one for "IT Professionals and Developers" is the full SP2 package. The
one you get from Windows Update attempts to download only the components
your particular computer requires.

One advantage to downloading the full package is you can burn it to a CD so
on future installations you don't have to download it again.

You can also order it from Microsoft on CD free of charge.

Anyone know the direct URL as I would like to save a copy to a CD.

Thanks.
