Hello!
Which PSU is quieter: Chieftec GPS-350EB-101A or FSP 350-60GLN with
Protechnic fan?
FSP 350-60GLN is installed in my computer and, after replacing MB
Chaintech 6btm with Asus P5W DH Deluxe with Intel Core 2 Duo E6750,
became noisy with vibration noise.
Best regards,
Dima
* if it is vibration noise that causes the difference, then deal with
that, it has nothing to do with which PSU. A friend once had some
noise, after some troubleshooting we isolated the noise, found it to
be the PSU vibrating(PSU out the box ran ok.. and sometimes holding
the side of the case stopped the noise), so we stuffed some tissues
around the PSU or some elastic bands, i do not remember.. And that
fixed it.
* you cannot know for sure which PSU or CPU fan e.t.c. is louder just
by looking at it. Unless one is LOUD, in which case you are probably
not looking for quiet models. And therefore are not really that
concerned about the noise anyway.
* we are human beings with ears. When it comes to the nuisance of
noise. Both volume and pitch are relevant. A man that does not like
high pitches noises may be more ill from a very quiet high pitched
power supply, than from a louder low pitched power supply. Some
"quiet" power supplies may have fans that make a higher pitched noise
as they spin.
Another possible factor is high pitched noise from buzzing
transformers. I personally have only encountered this from a weird
slightly old PSU card. But I am wary of this issue. If you are
noise sensitive, you may be lucky enough to find somebody in a store
or an ebay seller, who can hear or knows somebody who can hear, these
high pitched noises, and can thus know that the component does not
make such a noise. I bought a low power psu from an ebay seller who
has a flatmate with bat like ears.
Kony once mentioned that some MBRDs nowadays make high pitched noises.
I would be interested if he has any more info on this Like makes/
models for a start. . % of MBRDs that have this problem. Any
particular make most affected. Any make not affected. e.t.c.
