Between moving and having to use a webmail, and then having to reinstall my
system, I have ended up with 2 personal folders for Outlook 2003 and I can't
tell which is which. THe one I am using and which has current email has an
empty address book so that when I click "to" in a new message, I get a box
saying that the Contacts folder associated with this address list could not
be opened, After I OK to close the box, a Select Names box opens. It has b
drop down list containing two "contact" files. The second one has the
address.

When I look at the folder containing the Outlook files, I can't tell which
one is which. What I want to do, is to select the 2nd one on the drop-down
list. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this clearly. This is the result of
having to save files when I my laptop went back to the factory for repair,
then reinstallng the system and so on. I kept trying to backup and save the
files.

Do you *really* have two outlook.pst files? They can be in the same
folder because the names would need to be different!

Or do you just have two Contacts entries in your address book?

Need to know this in order to suggest a solution!

My Outlook2003 folder on drive D contains these files:
backup - 365,708,288 4/27/07

Outlook - 314,917,888 4/27/07

Outlook1 backup - 271,360 4/11/2007

Outlook backup - 310,854, 656 4/22/2007

plus an archive file

I think that I restored a backup file to get backup file (firstwhat happened
was that the computer tech reinstalled my system but left me with the pst
files in documents and settings, which was not where I kept my data and so
everything was lost. The confusion has come because I tried to restore
first my outlook.pst file from D, and when that didn't hve the latest
entries, I used the backup file. I really don't understand the relationship
between the contact folder and the address list. At one time the Outlook
navigation panel had two duplicate lists of folders. I got rid of the one
that was old. No wonder it's messed up. If you can straighten this out,
you're a genius.

In OL, All Mail Folders View, how many Personal Folders does it list?
If you then select/highlight a Personal Folder, rt click properties >
Advanced.......File name will give you the path.

If you then select the Contacts Folder, rt click properties > Outlook
Address Book Tab......tick show as an email address book

If the tech located your pst files in Docs & Settings all you had to do, in
OL was File>Open>Data File......browse to the location and select the pst

Aha! I clicked on the properties for the dual sets of personal folders and
found that the 2nd one is the backup file I opened but its emal is not the
current one.

However, I don't find a separate contacts folders - I can find the
properties and then I can find an Outlook Address Book tab, and I can
check/uncheck to use this for email addresses. BUt whichever one I check
for use, I still have the same result, and I have to use the dropdown box to
get the email address list.
