I have 4 computers on a peer to peer network. I'm building
a new data server and would like to restrict info to
different users. Do I need a server operating system or
will 2000 Pro or XP Pro work - if so which is the best
choice for this new machine?

Hello

In my opinion I would choose win2000 Pro or server over XP
but that's my choice, however take all replies you get and good
luck

That's a curious choice, since XP Pro is, by and large, just a
later generation of the same (NT-based) code of W2K Pro. What is
there about W2K Pro that you prefer over XP Pro? Is it just the
(minor) differences in the GUI, or something more substantial?

I'm not trying to start an argument; enquiring minds want to know.

Both 2K Pro and XP will do the job. It would be the easiest to setup but not
as flexible as 2K Server. Post back if you need more info.

I think it simply depends on your current and future needs, ie. SOHO or business usage...
