Hi. Considering the purchase of an all in one printer....Have narrowed the
choice down to the Epson RX620 or the latest model RX700. Comments from
anyone who has had experience with the RX620 or the RX700 welcome.

The 620 lacks a CD/DVD printing to option. Would be nice but not that
vital.....The new RX700 has double the number of nozzles and half the ink
droplet size. 1.5 pl droplet on the RX700 compared to 3pl droplet on the
RX620...Anyone know would the higher spec of the RX700 produce any dramatic
improvements or is it a case of technology for technology sake!!!

I also think the easy availability of the ink would be a problem in the
short term. The RX700 inks are apparently not compatible with any of the
other Epson range of printers. About £60 for a full set of 6 and no option
of buying a "pack" at a discount yet!! Any advice and opinion welcome...

P.S does anyone know of any discussion forums on printers in
general......Thanks...

HERE IS THE PROBLEM YOU WILL HAVE. THE EPSON SCANNER IS BETTER THAN THE
CANON SCANNER. THE CANON PRINTER IS BETTER THAN EPSON AND HAS A LOWER
RISK OF CLOGGING AND A LOWER AMOUNT OF INK USAGE.

THAT IS WHY SEPARATES ARE BETTER. IF ONE GOES BAD OR IF YOU WANT TO
UPGRADE A FUNCTION YOU CAN BUT WITH THE MFD YOU NEED TO GET RID OF THE
WHOLE THING.

IF SPACE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CRITERIA THEN THAT IS THE ONLY REASON TO
GET A MFD AND CANON MP780 IS THE BEST. IT CAN PRINT DUPLEX AND HAS AN
AUTO DOCUMENT FEEDER. THE INK COSTS LESS, THE PRINTER FUCNTION IS
FASTER AND THE PHOTOS LOOK MORE BRILLIANT.

I wouldn't buy an Epson multifunctional. Either go to a cheapo HP PSC
15xx (make sure it can accept a photo cartridge) or a Canon MP750. The
former is very cheap and small and produces nice photos. The later is
your dream machine, fast, quiet, reliable, very high quality text &
photos, cd printing, dual trays, ADF scanner and it's very easy to
refill.

I have to agree with Panos..

I spent a lot of time looking for a good quality Multi-functional and I
was initially heavily biased towards the Epson models until I started
reading reviews and considering the costs.

If you're after a water fast printer then the CX6600 is worth thinking
about but when it comes to other functionality it doesn't have a lot
going for it. I've seen many reviews from users complaining about the
build quality of the Epson MF units. Consumables can be got around but
the big kicker for me was finding the photocopy times.. They're awful.

In the end I found myself wandering towards Canons and finally settled
on the MP750 which has been an absolute dream. It's feature rich, low
cost printing (if you buy aftermarket) and has the copy speed I was
after, ie: near instantaneous.

I couldn't recommend it highly enough..

Hope that helps...

Thanks guys for your input. I will look into canon printers as an
alternative option. Space is a bit of a problem hence my choice for a multi
device...The reason I settled on Epson is that I have had an Epson stylus
870 for about 5 years now and have had no head clogging problems that a head
cleaning routine has not put right quickly. So it's a case of the devil you
know versus the unknown......(Other brand I have not had any experience with
other than a canon many moons (years) ago when inkjets were a lot more
primitive than now. It was a canon but also a load of cack.......So I went
the Epson way and have thus far remained with Epson. Any comments on HP
printers compared to canon and Epson would be welcom.....Regards......

Canon inkjet AIOs lack fax with the exception of the mp780, technicaly
an older model but text quality has not improved with the newer models
so far as i'm aware.

Canon while having a fine product, is a tad immature in the driver and
software compliment department. You can't for example use the MP
Navigator and scan to fax.. unless perhaps you have an onboard model
like the mp780. Even then you must select multiable copies and use EZ
photo print and EZ photo print will only print to Canon devices, not
the microsoft fax device nor any other fax device you may have
installed on your machine.

Also canon doesn't have much in the way of wireless options. I know
the japanese models list bluetooth as an option, but near as i'm aware
they don't have a WiFi model all in one. This is important as while
you can get away with printer sharing with your operating system, you
can't get away with scanner sharing or fax sharing. WiFi or network
resolves this issue by it's very nature.

But Canon does offer spiffy output, text is top notch, photos are damn
decent. They are worth looking at.

HP while I don't know all the model numbers, is a tad more mature in
drivers, software, and features. While there have been issues with
their auto installer, this can be circumvented by manually installing
your printer and electing to choose to install their multi megs of
software. Fax support while not on all models does exist, near as i'm
aware, on one of their wifi models.

I just checked the Canon USA web site. No CD printing on the MP750.

I just checked the Canon USA web site. No CD printing on the MP750.

No USA printer would be listed on the website as having cd printing.
But I know for a fact it does. I have the service manual that says it
does... I wrote much in the way documentation that says it does. I
published that info on a website which in turn knightcrawler
successfully though much communication with others refined the research
conducted by rj and my self based on documentation for the mp750 /
mp780. To be 100% clear... the mp750 was the reference point... the
absolute building block for *all* information regarding cd-printing
writen for the Americas. This has been tested personaly by me on store
model units thanks to co-operative staff. The mp750 can print on CDs.

And in fact... you can order the cd-tray, the offical part required for
cd printing from canonUSA the last time I checked.

I'll refer to knightcrawler's page on this subject.

I can personaly verify that N.American model mp750/mp760/mp780 are 100%
able to print onto CDs with the right part either bought from CanonUSA,
Ebay, or made your self from a cerial box, and a few button presses.

I don't know if the canon MP750 is available here in the UK. Have found a
model number MP760 though......Which does seem to have CD printing
capability.....At least the CD label software is supplied which claims makes
it easy to print direct to CD/DVD.....
At a cut price store it is about £149...Don't know what that is in
dollars........

That is because CD printing is an officially included feature in that part
of the world.

IME Pond Sterling equates to around (usually a bit lower) than US dollar.

The MP750 is in most respect a MP780 except
1. Fax
2. front panel... the mp780 gets extra buttons for quick dial on the
left hand side.

The roms are even identical, and one can in fact tell the mp750 it's a
mp780. Except for that pesky lack of a fax and those quick dial
buttons.

The mp760 is close but not identical. The screen is different, being
color and full of spiffy photo options it does have a different rom...
though very similar in many aspects. It lacks fax and the doc feeder
but adds a backlight for slide/negative scanning. Many of the
mp750/mp780 options are however present, as if they retrofit the mp750
rom for the mp760.

But the mp760 has been replaced with more spiffy model. The mp750 may
not be in production as it's pretty much a mp780 anyway and if you
don't need fax you might as well buy a more spiffy model. And it's not
like they save much having a fax and no fax version of the same
printer, and it's not like a no-fax version was at all popular.

But all are CD printing like the newer models... Epson only has that
option on one AIO IIRC, their most spendy one.
